A few tips for MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS Word, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Filemaker Pro, and General Windows/Desktop

MS Outlook

Shift+Ctrl+i = go to Inbox
Ctrl+n = start new mail
Ctrl+Enter = send mail
Alt+F4 = close current window

Customize your menu bar
Right click on menu bar, choose customize
Add commands as desired.
While in "customize" mode, right click on new buttons/commands you've added, and you can then...
Change or edit the icon for that command
My favorite shortcuts to add as icons to the menu bar: Calendar, Contacts, Notes, Sent Items

Delayed Send for emails
Compose a message, and set a delayed "send" time for it. Specify minutes / hours / days / weeks to wait for sending.
File > Properties > Send Options > Microsoft Exchange Server (tab)

Set a Signature: Tools > Options > Mail Format > Signature Picker

Customize the view of your inbox - add the "Size" column, so you can sort by size.

View menu - Copy - current view - make available to all mail folders. That adds it to the menu as a view style.

PROBLEM: Unable to Reorder Tasks
SYMPTOMS: While in the Tasks folder or in the TaskPad of the Day/Week/Month view of the Calendar folder, you are not able to drag tasks to reorder task priority. You do not see the red arrows signaling that the drag action is being performed, though you may see the standard mouse cursor with a "ghost" icon below it.
CAUSE: The view you are using has been Sorted and/or Grouped By.
SOLUTION:
To Remove the Sort and Group By Attributes in the Task Folder
- On the View menu, point to Current View and click Customize Current View.
- In the View Summary dialog box, click Group By. Click Clear All and then click OK.
- In the View Summary dialog box, click Sort. Click Clear All and then click OK twice.

- In the View Summary dialog box, click Group By. Click Clear All and then click OK.

Photoshop
CTRL-ALT right-click anywhere in the image area, and you'll automatically switch to that layer.
CTRL right-clicking will pop-up a menu listing all the layers at and below what you've clicked on.

MS Excel

Ctrl D, Ctrl R = copy(fill) down or right
Ctrl 1 =Format cells (wrap/alignment)

Wrap text w/in cells - can't do this if cells are merged!
Ctrl+page up or page down = toggle through tabs of an excel doc.
Insert date & Time, various formats:
=NOW() to have Excel return current date and time (can re-calc to update by pressing F9)
Ctrl+: = enter current date (static), Ctrl+; = current time (static)
Tools > Options > Calculation - check "automatic" radio button if forumla's not updating
F9 - recalculates / updates formulas

For working w/ code (HTML, SQL, email address lists even), try the =CONCATENATE() command in conjunction with "filling down" rows to be able to output code.

Mean = Average = sum/count
Median = middle number (regardless of value, the middle one)
Mode = most frequent / common value

Dreamweaver

Ctrl+shift+a = Add column
Ctrl+shift+- = Delete column
Ctrl+m = Add new row
Ctrl+shift+m = Delete row

MS Word

Search & Replace in Word & Excel (Ctrl H)
^t = tab
^p = paragraph
(Helpful for formatting code, in & out of SQL, HTML, etc. Powerful in conjunction w/ Excel, "filling down", to write code.)

To set default properties of any new word doc (Word 2000):
Change settings in page setup & Format areas, and then click on the Default button on those screens.
Or... C:\WINNT\Profiles\YourProfileName\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\normal.dot
- modify this document, save as different name, but same extenstion ".dot"
- Quit Word, go to this directory, delete the old "normal.dot", rename the new one to "normal.dot"

- Alt+spacebar+n = minimize current window
- Customize the start menu for quick launch of common apps, folders, documents. Include a shortcut to the Start Menu in the start menu
- Customize your "Favorites" folder, w/ shortcuts to other key folders. Makes "Save As" navigation, and enclosure to email navigation easier.
- Use the "Send to" feature when in any MS doc (file menu), or on the desktop (right click on file), to send a file as an enclosure in an email. Right.
- Use the Links area in web browsers like crazy.
- Use the quick launch bar in the Task bar for apps.
- Drag docs onto quick launch bar app to open them in a different app.
- To show full menus as default (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook 2000): Tools menu -> customize -> options tab . . . uncheck "menus show recently used commands first"

dir>list256.txt will print contents of a directory to a text file as a list.
